Muscle Maven – 04 January 2016

So – New Year, New Me. Yep – I have become one of those. I have now got to the stage where I am fed up with various injuries etc continually holding me back (currently nursing an issue with my rotator cuff – just woke up with it one morning). I made a decision – for me it is quite a big one. I am going to take a year off training. Well, not strictly true. I am going to take a step away from my training goals (currently strength based) and work on fixing my body.

My starting point will be ‘How to be a Supple Leopard’ by Dr Kelly Starrett. This was a Christmas gift and I have only really just started reading it. I have watched some of his YouTube videos and like the way he puts information across. My physio also recommended some of the videos when he was working with me on my hips.

My current issues are

  • Hips
  • Ankles (due to many sprains)
  • Rotator cuff
  • General lack of flexibility

For too long I have been ignoring these issues and have either simply been training through them or paying a token gesture of a couple of stretching sessions. I want to take these weak points and make them strong. Only then do I feel I will have a solid foundation to really build on. If I continue to train the way I do with the issues that I have I think it will not end well!

I guess I am trying to say do not ignore the signs your body is trying to give you. Address them. Building strength on dysfunction will not end well. It is not giving up on your goals, simply acquiring a set of new ones.

Strength Shop

Great shop with a wide range of quality products. Currently has a 50% sale. Worth checking out the clearance section while you are there as well.

Activity trackers, foam rollers, running gear – Aldi has it all!

Sales – extra discounts…

Most sales will have already moved into ‘extra discount’ territory. Don’t be tempted into buying something you neither want or need just because it has been reduced further. That said – you will be able to get some real bargains. It is also worth stocking up on cards, presents etc for next year.
