Just a quick post this evening, but a very important one.
I was training someone in the gym today. It was clear he was a little quieter than usual. The session was tough, but this didn’t usually put him into his own head. On gentle prodding it transpired he was focusing on one specific area of his life at the moment that he perceives as negative. This was affecting his whole demeanour and therefore his session.
We had a quick chat and I explained how important it is that he remind himself of all the positives in his life right now, not just in terms of our training and his physique change, but also all the other facets of his life. He took this on board, we upped the tempo yet again and finished a very tough TRX jump sets ladder.
For anyone out there who struggles: keep your goal at the forefront of your mind when things get tough. Also focus on the positives in your life. It’s normal and easy to focus on the one negative that you see/feel, but when training you must put it away, concentrate on the positives and see the session do its magic.
