Myself, Miss B. and Nic Brown were very lucky on Thursday night.
We had the privilege of watching Snow Patrol at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town as part of the Q Awards 2011 Gigs.
To watch Snow Patrol is one thing. To watch them at a small venue like the HMV Forum is another. But to get to watch them when they were playing just one night, and with VIP tickets (and a free bar) was simply unbelievable.
We were stood about 2 metres away from the lovely Edith Bowman, who seemed to enjoy the show just as much as we did. And how couldn’t she? The band, we all; agreed, were absolutely amazing. We really couldn’t fault them at all.
Wow. Just wow. I’ve seen a few big bands in my time, been to Glastonbury twice and even been lucky enough to see Sparklehorse and chat to Mark Linkus backstage before he died, and this was up there.
In terms of live performance, Snow Patrol were just awesome. Gary Lightbody is an unbelievable performer, his voice is perfect in every song, to the point where they sound just like their tracks on a CD (something very important to Miss B.) I can’t reiterate enough how good the guys were, even their choice of songs. They put a few new tracks in, but literally played everyone of their well known, superbly written classic tracks.
For encore Snow Patrol played two tracks, my personal favourite of all time “Chocolate”, with some of my all time favourite lyrics:
“This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because I’m sorry doesn’t mean
I didn’t enjoy it at the time”
And then, just to make sure we all left feeling on a high (Chocolate is a pretty emotive track), they ended the show with “Just Say Yes”. An amazing end to an unbleivable night.
Big thanks to Q Awards, Merc and Snow Patrol.
Not sure I’ll go to a better gig for a very long time!
